Previous chapter:  Beam 208

As had been their practice, Tommy joined Keller for lunch on Wednesday.  Now that Brian was no longer with them, his wife Belle came, she said for propriety's sake.  Tommy tried to keep the meal simple, going for a club sandwich and a cup of soup.  It was still a remarkably good lunch.

"So," she ventured once the soup course had arrived, "I have a sort of a problem.  I know with absolute one hundred percent certainty who the leak is at Wells Fargo, but I have absolutely no evidence that I can present to anyone other than you."

"Oh?" Keller responded.  "How's that?"

She hesitated, uncertain exactly how to explain, before saying, "It's Aceydeecy himself.  I recognized him in his secret identity, and read his mind, then followed him home.  He was trying to think of how to get Metalika out of prison, or barring that who to get to help with his next job.  His name is Angus Young, and he lives on the second floor of a quadriplex a few miles from the business district."

"I see," Keller said.  "What's the problem?"

Belle answered.  "She can't very well go to the police with that.  'Hello, I'm secretly Truth, and I can see through disguises, so I was able to recognize that Angus--Young, you said--is secretly Aceydeecy, and since I can read minds I know he's going to plan another robbery and either break Metalika out of jail or find another partner.'  Not only is that not something they can use as evidence of anything, she would have to reveal her identity to do it."

Keller nodded.  "Hadn't thought of that.  What would I do without you?"

The waiter appeared with drinks and plates.  Tommy indicated she was still working on her soup, and he departed.  Keller thought of something.

"Well, we know who he is.  I can let Wells Fargo know that we suspect him of being the leak but don't have solid proof, so they should probably keep an eye on him but try not to alert him to our suspicions."

"How will you explain that?"

Again he thought a moment, but then suggested, "I'll go as Tell and talk to their internal security people, and I'll let them know that we believe he has a connection to Aceydeecy which we are investigating.  That should work."

"Sounds good," Tommy said.  "What else?"

"I'm afraid you're going to have to check on him periodically, read his mind, find out his next plan."

"That's very hit-and-miss," she explained.  "I can only read what he's currently thinking.  He could go for hours without thinking anything of value to me--thinking about meals, bills, girls, work, television, even nothing at all.  But I'll try.  At least I know where he lives."

Finishing her soup, she started on the sandwich when Keller asked, "So, how are things going at BBS?"

"Pretty well, I'd say.  We sorely miss Brian and Derek, but they got us pointed in the right direction, and I think we might have a solid processor design fairly soon."  From there the conversation drifted into the technical discussion of their design process, until Keller rushed her back to work with half a club sandwich in a doggie bag.
