Previous chapter: Takano 153
Mister Justice took a half-step forward like he was about to try to leap and stab the flying Doctor Mordenslice, but then he spun to dart toward the computer. If he could just stab and slash it with his sword a few times, the whole mass would likely suffer a catastrophic cascade. A humming stopped from behind him, and the F hook came around his chest and lifted him back and up so that he flew through the air away from the computer pile. He hit the wall, and slid down.
Doctor Mordenslice flew to take up a position between him and the computer. He turned the cutting energy blade back on as he floated four feet off the ground. Mister Justice pulled himself to his feet, feeling every one of his bruises and panting for breath.
“My power suit not only blocks bullets, and flies with antigravity, but it also gives me super strength.”
Mister Justice groaned and spoke.
“Why not use the antigravity for the ship?”
“It doesn’t scale up efficiently. Pity that. Can you imagine making a building a half mile tall? But once I take over, this world will be a place of wonders.”
“No one will be free.”
“The lower classes are too stupid to know what to do with their freedom. Intelligent men like you and me should be in charge.”
“God is smarter than us.”
“If He exists,” Doctor Mordenslice shrugged, “I would have to agree. Designing galaxies and planetary biologies is a feat that leaves even me in awe.”
“Yet He gave us freedom. Perhaps He knows something you don’t?”
Having lost the argument, Mordenslice went straight to violence as his temper surged. He dove down at Mister Justice with his axe-like weapon held in right-ready stance. Brian parried the assault, Sword versus energy field. Another attack came, and another, and he was always on the defense. Not only could Mordenslice fly, he also had far greater reach with his weapon, and he had superstrength so that every time the weapons crossed, Brian had to hang on tight with both hands not to have it ripped from his fingers. This slowed him down, and shortened his reach even further.
Finally, in a moment of desperation, Brian empowered his strength and went for a wild slice, a wild oberhaus, an overhand attack, on the flying man. But it was a feint; as soon as Mordenslice moved to block it, Brian changed his path. Hoping, Mister Justice rolled down and under his feet--only to have Doctor Mordenslice slam the butt of his weapon right into Brian’s left kidney.
“Aaaagh.” Brian saw a black spot and screamed uncontrollably at some of the worst pain he had ever experienced. Gagging, he curled up, and Doctor Mordenslice spun about and landed between him, and the computer.
“You are more intelligent than the previous Mister Justice, but he was a far better swordfighter.” Doctor Mordenslice put his F hook in his left hand like a staff with the butt on the concrete floor, and unsnapped a long energy gun from his other leg.
“Say good--”
Desperate, Brian leapt up and swung his sword wildly, cutting the energy rifle in half. The resulting explosion blew both him and the evil Doctor back. Crashing into the wall again, he felt something snap. The Doctor had come close to impacting the computer, and he shook his head. Then he looked over the computer, and finally back to Mister Justice.
A tiny bit of pity touched his face as he saw Mister Justice still lying there. Brian had already had his moment of panic as he realized that nothing below his neck could move.
Doctor Mordenslice walked up to him, steel boots clattering on the concrete floor.
“Being crippled from the neck down is no way to go through life. You failed to stop my computer, but I will give you this, it was a brave effort. NOW DIE!!” He brought the energy blade down and cut through Mister Justice’s body in one slice.
